College Life Is Rough
Going to college is stressful. No matter if you’re a freshman or a senior. There are so many things that need to be done in order to attend a university, especially here at Rowan. I do not know about everyone else, but I was a transfer. I came from Rowan College At Gloucester County, formerly known as GCC. i noticed a lot of changes when I started attending school here. From money to food, to weather to just simply walking to class. Everything changed. Here are three things that i thought would be helpful to know if you are attending college here at Rowan University.
- The cost: You need to be financially stable if you don’t want any issues. When transferring from another college you need to pay an enrollment fee. That enrollment fee costs me two hundred dollars. Then, I had to pay for orientation. Which should be free shouldn’t it! And do not even get me started on financial aid. That shit is just a living nightmare that never ends. By the end of the semester I am always paying my bill out of my own pocket because financial aid only covers a fraction of my tuition. They charge you for the most outrageous things. They charge you for the Recreational Center, even if you do NOT use it. They charge you for the library, which should be free. A lot of students do not have computers or printers at home or can not afford six hundred dollars worth of textbooks every semester. They even charge you for health insurance. This is beyond bizarre. By the end of the semester you will be broke. I do not care what anybody tells you. You will be broke. Searching everywhere in your house for the smallest amount of change just to buy you a cup of coffee to stay up during class.
- The food: This is one good thing about Rowan University. There are so many different places to get food here on campus. You will feel like you do not ever need to leave.in the student center alone, also known as Chamberlin Hall, there are five places to grab something to eat. There is the Marketplace, which is a buffet. They have all kinds of food. Sandwiches and burgers, soups and salads, pastas, meat entrees, and they even have desserts. You can make your own waffles and ice cream. Then there is Peet’s Coffee. They serve other things along with coffee. There is RoGo, which is like a wawa. They have a microwave so that you can heat up your packed lunch. You can also stop by some of your favorite shops to grab a bite. On Rowan boulevard, there is Pizza Hut, Dominos, a burger and shakes place, Cookie Munchers, Barnes and Noble cafe, Ry’s Bagels, and Seven Eleven. There are so many options. You can even go off campus to local restaurants. You will be so happy to see all the different types of food that you can get in a two through five mile radius.
3. Friends. Here at Rowan University there are many people. I came here not planning on talking to anybody. I am an introvert and do not like people. But everyone here is so friendly. This semester alone, I have made nine friends. That is a record for me. My entire college experience has been great. Having friends made it that way. If I didn’t have any friends, I probably would have failed a couple of classes this semester. Its nice having friends here at Rowan because you can text them if you have a question about an assignment, instead of emailing your professor and waiting and waiting and waiting for them to email you back. When in reality they probably will not email you back, depending on who your professor is.
